Before treatment.

The deterioration seen in this picture is the cupping, i.e., curling up off the canvas and detaching of the paint layer, visible at the left side and at lower right.

After treatment.

In order to completely re-adhere the lifting paint layer it was necessary to line the painting onto a new canvas support. This relaxes and restores the paint layer to its normal plane and appearance. Cleaning and varnishing followed.
